Hyderabad: Hectic campaigning continued in Telangana for the December 7 Assembly elections Friday with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, Congress-led "grand alliance" and BJP making spirited efforts to bolster their cause. TRS leader and irrigation minister in the caretaker government T Harish Rao, addressing a gathering here, criticised the "grand alliance." Claiming that the alliance is day-dreaming about coming to power in the state, he said the coalition would not get even opposition status after the elections. TRS has been attacking the "grand alliance", comprising Congress, Telugu Desam Party, CPI and Telangana Jana Samiti, alleging that TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu had written letters to the Centre opposing irrigation projects in the state in his capacity as chief minister of Andhra Pradesh. The TRS is going it alone in the assembly polls. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy, addressing a group of youth and students, alleged that the TRS government let down the students. The Osmania University here lost the opportunity to host the prestigious Indian Science Congress because of the TRS government's attitude, he claimed. Osmania University was a hub of separate Telangana agitation by the students. Congress, TDP and CPI organised a protest at the CBI office here Friday as part of Congress-sponsored agitation against the developments in the probe agency. Meanwhile, BJP's manifesto committee chairman NVSS Prabhakar alleged that the TRS government was mainly focused on encouraging "defections" from other parties in the four-and-half-years of its rule. BJP's youth wing BJYM is holding its national convention in Hyderabad for two days from Saturday and party chief Amit Shah is scheduled to address a rally on Sunday. Shah had kicked off the party's campaign last month. BJP is also going it alone in the assembly elections.
