Watch: Digvijaya Singh scores self goal, says Congress loses votes if he campaigns

BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh is set to go to polls on November 28 and the pre-poll surveys predicted that the Congress may snatch power from the ruling BJP in the upcoming assembly elections. While Congress President Rahul Gandhi and other senior party leaders are actively participating in the election campaign, former chief minister Digvijaya Singh feels his party's votes will get reduced if he campaigns for it. A video of the two-time Madhya Pradesh chief minister has gone viral on the internet in which he is heard saying that if he campaigns for the Congress, the party will get fewer votes. The video was recorded on October 13 but it emerged Tuesday, the day when Congress president Rahul Gandhi is in the state to campaign for the upcoming Assembly elections. ".. mera kaam keval ek. Koi prachar nahi, koi bhashan nahi. Mere bhashan dene se to Congress ke vote kat-te hai, mai jata nahi" (I have only one job, no campaigning, no speech. When I deliver a speech, Congress votes get reduced, so I don't go)," Digvijaya Singh is heard saying in the video. He, however, claimed that the video was not being shown in a proper manner.

"It is not being shown in the right manner, especially the first part. If you hear the first part, you will understand it in a proper way," Digvijaya Singh told PTI when asked to comment on the video. As the video surfaced on the social media, the BJP took a jibe with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan saying the Congress should not treat one of its senior leaders in this manner. "We (BJP) have not given him (Digvijaya Singh) this pain. It was given by the Congress itself. His posters are not being put up, he is not being given prominence," Chouhan said. "I never imagined the Congress will treat one of its leaders in this manner. Congressmen should, at least, respect their leader," the chief minister added. The 230-member Madhya Pradesh Assembly will go to polls on November 28 and counting of votes will be taken up on December 11.
