Madhya Pradesh: BJP files police complaint against Kamal Nath for tweeting fake photo

Madhya Pradesh Congress unit chief Kamal Nath took to Twitter on Monday for lambasting the condition of the roads in Madhya Pradesh with a picture showing a man folding the upper layer of a road made up of tar while some bemused kids watched.

BHOPAL: The BJP in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday filed a police complaint against Congres state unit chief Kamal Nath for sharing a fake photo to accuse Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan of corruption. In run-up for assembly elections, the ruling party called for action Kamal Nath for tweeting a picture of a road from Bangladesh two days ago and passing it off as one from Madhya Pradesh, news agency ANI reported. Kamal Nath took to Twitter on Monday for lambasting the condition of the roads in Madhya Pradesh with a picture showing a man folding the upper layer of a road made up of tar while some bemused kids watched. It was later found that the image was originally tweeted in 2016 by Rifat Alam, a Bangladeshi user, who criticized the Bangladeshi government for the poor condition of the roads. After Kamal Nath's post went viral, Shivraj Singh Chouhan hit out at him and said the photograph was fake. The issue was also picked up by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who while addressing BJP workers, on Wednesday accused the Congress of concocting "falsehoods" to gain power in Madhya Pradesh. "Sometimes there are fake news and sometimes there are misleading photographs. In fact, Shivraj Singh Chouhan's government has done so much of development work that the opposition can't raise their finger at it. It has turned Madhya Pradesh from a "BIMARU state to Bemisal state" (from a sick state to an incomparable state)," the Prime Minister said. Elections for the 230-member MP Assembly are scheduled for November 28 while counting of votes will be taken up on December 11. (With inputs from IANS)
