Vijay Mallya's bail extended; next hearing in extradition case on September 12

The Mallya’s side has claimed that the money could not be returned due to “genuine business failure”.

New Delhi: London Westminster Court today extended the bail of fugitive Vijay Mallya in the extradition case, shifting the final hearing date to September 12. Mallya's attorney has reportedly informed that the evidence presented in the court in the form of photographs could not be relied upon. The final hearing for the extradition case against fugitive Vijay Mallya was to take place today (Tuesday) in London Court, when the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) on behalf of India would present the final submissions. As Mallaya was headed for the court, he said that he had offered the court to seize his properties in lieu of the loans against him. The statement came while Mallya spoke exclusively to ABP News reporter. "I had offered the court to take my properties in India in lieu of the loan money that I have on my head". He further claimed that all the allegations that have been levied against him are false. "allegations of money laundering and stealing money against me are completely false". The case is being heard in Westminster Magistrates Court before Chief Magistrate Emma Arbuthnot. Before making final oral submissions, both teams were expected to file written submissions. The case involves thousands of pages of documents related to the loans extended by various banks to Mallya’s Kingfisher Airlines. The Mallya’s side has claimed that the money could not be returned due to “genuine business failure”. The embattled liquor tycoon has been on bail on an extradition warrant since his arrest in April last year. He is fighting extradition to India.
