Congress takes on Govt; says 'Demonetisation was a scam introduced for laundering money'
The RTI reveals that the meeting recorded, “most of the black money is held not in the form of cash but Real Estates and gold and this move (Demonetisation) would not have any material impact on these assets” he said.
New Delhi: A day after Election Commission announced the scheduled for 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Congress on Monday addressed a press briefing and took on Bharatiya Janta Party over government’s demonestisation move.
Hitting out at BJP Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that “demonetisation decision was imposed by the government on RBI”. He said, “Minutes of the RBI Directors' meeting, revealed through RTI, objects to all the reasons stated by Ministry of Finance and PM Modi for Demonetisation”.
Mr. Modi had said he wanted cashless economy. RBI noted that, "Growth rate of economy is the real rate, while growth in currency in circulation is nominal. Hence (Demonetisation) doesn't adequately support the recommendation" former Environment Minister said.
The RTI reveals that the meeting recorded, “most of the black money is held not in the form of cash but Real Estates and gold and this move (Demonetisation) would not have any material impact on these assets” he said.
“When the Congress comes to power, there will be an investigation into all abnormal increase in fund flows from tax havens. Demonetisation was a giant money laundering exercise and even today we are being the consequences of the same” he said.
“There has been a systematic effort in last 5 years to destroy the RTI, which was introduced by UPA I government. This shows that RTI can still be used to bring accountability and transparency in the governance” he added. He also said “It also records, while any incidents of counterfeiting are a concern, ₹400Cr as a % of total quantum of currency in circulation is not very significant”. This is the statement by RBI”.Demonetisation was indeed a "Tughlaqi Farmaan", which had no planning or discussion. Even today, nation is bearing its consequences: @INCIndia https://t.co/DklVA2kRqn
