Burari death mystery: The mystery looms over whether the death of the eleven family members was a collective suicide or a planned murder.

New Delhi: Eleven members of a family, including seven women, were found dead under mysterious circumstances in north Delhi's Burari area on Sunday morning. In a gruesome 10 family members were found blindfolded and hanging from an iron grill ceiling, while a 75-year-old woman’s body was found lying on the floor. As per reports, the dead included seven women and four men, while the number of children found hanging was five. The family was staying in the locality for the last 20 years and were into plywood business and owned a grocery shop. Prima facie police are suspecting it to be a case of collective suicide, however they have not yet provided further details and are probing the incident from all angles. The mystery still looms over whether the death of the eleven family members was a collective suicide or a planned murder. Check the latest development in the case here.

What happened in Delhi's Burari?

• The matter surfaced when a neighbour went to the shop owned by the family to get some milk early morning, but on finding the shop closed he went to their house and spotted the hanging bodies early morning. • The neighbour informed the police about the deaths. • After receiving the information, the police reached the spot and started the process of sending the dead body to the post-mortem. • Local people gathered in a large number outside the house as soon as the information of the dead bodies was circulated in the locality. • The police after reaching the spot, removed the crowd of people and surrounded the places around the house. • Meanwhile, the police are also interrogating the people around. • The forensic team has also reached the spot to investigate the matter. • Ward commissioner Rekha Sinha informed that the family belonged to a person named Lalit and those deceased include him along with his mother, sister, wife, children, brother, brother's wife and his children. Watch Video- • Prima facie police were suspecting it to be a case of collective suicide, however, as per the latest update police said that the old woman was apparently strangled to death. • There was no suicide note recovered from the spot. • A neighbour who refused to believe that it was a case of mass suicide said the brothers were very friendly persons. • A family employee named Ram Vilas who worked with the deceased family member for last 4 years told that they never had any tiff with anyone ever and were nice to everyone. Watch video- • Cheif Minister Arvind Kejriwal also visited Burari. • Calling the deaths as a tragic incident, he said that he has spoken to the police. "Let's wait for their investigation to be over," Kejriwal told media. • Police meanwhile are probing the incident from all angles and also checking the CCTV footages.
