Elections 2019 Live Update: Thursday turns out to be aneventful day, aghead of the crucial Lok Sabha polls. Major events that unfolded in the day inlcude: Congress President Rahul Gandhi  filing his nomination from Wayand in Kerala, Smriti Irani alleging of ditching the people of Amethi, which is traditional bastion in Uttar Pradesh, and release of Congress' list of 12 candidates for Madhya Pradesh. Added to these, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi's comment on brother Rahul Gandhi's nomination from Wayanad also garnered attention. 

Praising her elder brother, Priyanka Gandhi took to Twitter and urged the people of Wayanad to take care of Rahul Gandhi. She further said that the Congress chief wont let anybody down.

Rahul's high-profile rival in Amethi Smrirti Iarni Smriti Irani started her two-day Amethi  visit today by holding a public meeting of farmers - 'Kisan Sammelan'.

Irani attacked Congress president Rahul Gandhi, saying his decision to contest from the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala was an 'insult' to the people of Amethi. Rahul is contesting from the seat in Kerala in addition to his traditional stronghold of Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. Referring to the Congress chief, Irani said a person who is here in Amethi for the past 15 years has decided to leave his supporters and has chosen to file nominations from another constituency.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi will file his nomination on April 10, from Amethi for the Lok Sabha election, while UPA chief Sonia Gandhi will file her nomination from Raebareli on April 11; Priyanka Gandhi is also expected to join them, sources revealed on Thursday.

Congress party's poll promise of curbing monopolies in media and ending cross-ownership of media segments is "anachronic" and aimed at restricting free journalism, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said Thursday. In its election manifesto, the Congress has promised to pass a law to curb monopolies in the media, cross-ownership of different segments and control of the media by other business organisations.
