Tata Tiago NRG Petrol AMT Launched; Priced At Rs 6.15 Lakh

The Tiago NRG was previously available with both petrol and diesel engine options, but both the engines were available with a manual transmission only

The petrol-powered Tata Tiago NRG is now available with an AMT (automated manual transmission) apart from the standard 5-speed manual transmission. The Tiago NRG petrol-AMT that has just been introduced is priced at Rs 6.15 lakh, which makes it Rs 55,000 more expensive than its manual counterpart. The premium charged for the AMT in the Tiago NRG is the same as in the regular Tiago. The more rugged-looking Tiago NRG is based on the Tiago’s XZ variant, so both the cars share the equipment list. At the time of the NRG’s launch, the XZ was the top variant of the Tiago. The NRG version now attracts a premium of Rs 55,000 over the Tiago XZ in all the three powertrain options: petrol-manual, petrol-AMT and diesel-manual. In both the regular and NRG version, the Tiago draws power from a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine. This engine churns out 85PS of maximum power and makes 114Nm of peak torque, and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or an AMT in both the cars. Both the Tiago and the Tiago NRG can be had with a diesel-manual powertrain as well. It comprises of a 1.05-litre, 70PS diesel engine that develops 140Nm of torque and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. After the introduction of the Tiago NRG in India in 2018, Tata introduced Tiago XZ+, the new top variant of the Tiago range, with features like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (NRG and Tiago XZ get a 5-inch unit, CarPlay and Android Auto not available), 15-inch alloy wheels (XZ and NRG get 14-inch alloys), projector headlamps and automatic climate control. This variant is also available with the three powertrain options and costs exactly the same as the NRG. Tata Tiago NRG Petrol AMT Launched; Priced At Rs 6.15 Lakh Picking one over the other can be quite confusing, but you’d be better off with the Tiago XZ+ given the extra features on offer at the same price. The NRG’s advantage is that it stands 10mm higher off the ground and has cladding on the outside. That makes it look more rugged and will allow it to pass over some slightly bigger obstacles, but it doesn’t add to its off-road potential in any manner. For those who’re looking to buy the Tiago or the NRG, it must be noted that Tata is set to update the hatchback soon. The updated model is likely to get some cosmetic enhancements and new features. Tata also plans to shelve the 1.05-litre diesel engine from its smaller cars before the implementation of BS6 norms.
