US SC cancels arguments over previous Trump travel ban

Washington [USA], September 26 (ANI): The Supreme Court of the United States said that it will not hear oral arguments, scheduled on October 10, over President Donald Trump's travel ban, after he rolled out a new policy on Sunday.

The one-page unsigned announcement simply removes the case from the oral argument schedule for the moment, according to CNN.

The court's order on Monday was in response to Solicitor General Noel J. Francisco's request.

The justices ordered further briefing on whether the new presidential proclamation would render the prior case moot.

Francisco wrote to Supreme Court "respectfully suggesting" that the justices request supplemental briefs from both sides by October 5 because of the new restrictions the President has outlined.

The March travel ban, which expired on Sunday, was replaced by a new policy that affects eight counties and has no expiration date.

The United States expanded the controversial travel ban by slapping the restrictions on eight countries - North Korea, Iran, Chad, Libya, Syria, Venezuela, Yemen and Somalia.

Sudan has been dropped off the list from the banned countries.

The new travel ban order also bars certain government officials from Venezuela. (ANI)
