Reclining seats to be ditched on British Airways' airplanes

London [U.K.], Jan. 28 (ANI): British Airways has announced that their new airplanes will not have reclining seats for passengers.

The 35 new aircrafts, including A320neo and A321neo, will make their maiden flights later in the year.

The proposed changes are just for short-haul flights. The airways also made it clear that the seats will not be completely upright, but will have a gentle recline for comfort.

British Airways, which also operates out of India, explained that non-reclining seats are less likely to break, making the aircraft sturdier.

Also, the mechanism used for reclining the seats is heavy. So their removal would make airplanes much lighter, therefore burning lesser fuel.

According to the Daily Star Online, British Airways' spokesperson said, "They are also much lighter, ultimately making the aircraft lighter and therefore burning less fuel."

Daily Star Online has approached British Airways for said due to these changes, the airline would be able to offer much lower fares to customers.

They added, "We are installing at-seat power throughout the aircraft and will soon offer onboard Wi-Fi. The new aircraft will have brand new seats set to a gentle recline to ensure everyone in the cabin enjoys a comfortable journey". (ANI)
