Nepal's Bharatpur witnesses 75% turnout in re-poll

Kathmandu [Nepal], August 4 (ANI): Nepal's second biggest metropolis Bhartpur's 19 number ward on Friday witnessed a 75.58 percent voter turnout after the country's Supreme Court gave verdict for re-polling in the region.

The voters in the 19 number ward of the Bharatpur Metropolitan City braved the drizzling rains to cast their votes.

Bharatpur, which went for the polls in the first phase of local election in May 15 and the vote counting of the district, was hit by spree on May 28 as the cadres from Maoist Center tore 90 ballot papers.

People were seen queuing outside the six polling stations that had three-layer security arrangements with the deployment of 461 personnel's from Nepal Police, 295 from the Armed Police Force (APF).

Bharatpur is the centre of attraction for Nepali politics as daughter of former prime minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Renu Dahal is contesting against arch rival Devi Gyawali from Communist Party of Nepal- Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) for the Mayor post. (ANI)
