Jeff Sessions interviewed over Russian meddling probe

Washington D.C [USA], Jan 24 (ANI): The United States Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, was interviewed by lawyer and former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) director Robert Mueller, over his investigation on the alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 US presidential elections, a justice department spokeswoman said on Tuesday.

According to the Guardian, the questioning lasted for several hours and took place last week. It was also the first time the special counsel's office had interviewed a sitting member of US President Donald Trump's cabinet.

Ex-FBI director James Comey was also reportedly interviewed by the special counsel's office, over a series of memos Comey wrote about his conversations with Trump on the Russian meddling in the elections.

However, Trump fired Comey in May last year, over suspicions that he tried to obstruct the FBI investigation along with his Russian contacts.

The special counsel's office is investigating Russia's alleged role in meddling in the 2016 elections. This also including the hacking of Democratic party members' emails and release of sensitive information to the public.

The team is also investigating interactions between Trump's campaign members and Russians who were potentially involved in the elections. (ANI)
