Homeland Dept. to build border wall prototypes starting this summer

Washington D.C. [U.S.A.], June 28 (ANI): The United States' Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will begin construction of prototypes for President Donald Trump's proposed wall along the Mexican border this summer in the San Diego area.

Department officials said at a news briefing that the department is ready to begin testing designs on land that is already owned by the Government. Around four to eight designs will be built and tested, reports The New York Times.

"We own that land, have access to it and it's a good place to start testing in a real-world environment," said acting deputy commissioner Ronald D. Vitiello.

Funding for the border wall was not included in the budget submitted by the White House for fiscal year 2018, but the DHS has allocated USD 20 million from other programmes to pay for the prototypes.

The requests from Customs and Border Protection, the parent agency of the Border Patrol, said vendors should submit designs that make it essentially impossible for a person to climb the wall or gain access with a ladder. (ANI)
