Ebola patient jumps off ambulance in Guinea, dies

Conakry: A patient suspected of being infected with the Ebola virus died after jumping off an ambulance taking him to a treatment center in Guinea's Kankan region, health sources said Saturday.

Three suspected Ebola patients from Kankan, a place about 800 km from the capital city of Conakry, were being taken by the health services Friday to the Gueckedou treatment center when the incident occurred, Xinhua reported.

The patient jumped off the ambulance travelling at a high speed and died on the spot due to a broken neck. His wife, suspected of being infected and carried in the same ambulance, however, fled into the bush.

The third suspected patient was transported to the treatment center where he is awaiting results of clinical examination.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has warned that there could be up to 10,000 new Ebola cases per week in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone by the end of this year.
