Earthquake of magnitude 6.2 hit Mexico

Mexico City [Mexico], Sept. 24 (ANI): Another powerful earthquake of magnitude 6.2 on Richter scale hit Mexico on Saturday evening.

The earthquake killed one person and toppled already damaged homes and a highway bridge.

This was the third earthquake in past one month in the country reeling from two even more powerful quakes that together killed more than 400 people, reported the Washington Post.

As per the U.S. Geological Survey, magnitude 6.1 temblor was centered about 11 miles (18 kilometers) south-southeast of Matias Romero in the state of Oaxaca, which was the region most battered by a magnitude 8.1 quake on Sept. 7.

Earlier on September 23, Mexico shook as 4.1 magnitude earthquakes struck off the southwest coast of Mexico near Paredon, Chiapas.

According to local media reports, a magnitude 4.2 tremor struck San Mateo del Mar, Oaxaca, and a magnitude 5.5 hit Las Aguamitas, Sinaloa, just hours before.

Earlier on September 19, an earthquake of magnitude 7.1 on the Richter scale that struck Mexico having epicentre 4.5 kilometers from east-northeast of San Juan Raboso and 55 km southwest of the city of Puebla.

The strongest earthquake measuring 8.2 on the Richter scale struck off the country on September 7. (ANI)
