Drone strikes kill 17 IS terrorists in Afghanistan

Kabul [Afghanistan], Jan 15 (ANI): At least 17 terrorists belonging to the Islamic State (IS) group have been killed in airstrikes conducted by foreign forces in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.

The Tolo News quoted the provincial police as saying in a statement on Sunday that the drone strikes were carried out in the Haska Mina and Achin districts of the province.

The statement further said that 14 IS terrorists were killed in Achin and three others in the Haska Mina district.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Nangarhar has been the deadliest province for the United States forces over the last year.

It is one of the few provinces in Afghanistan, where U.S. troops have been routinely accompanying Afghan forces into the battle.

According to the report, US warplanes have carried out hundreds of airstrikes, while its special forces conducted ground operations in the province.

As per the new Afghan strategy of the U.S. administration, which President Donald Trump announced in August, the forces have intensified the attacks against Taliban and the number of soldiers has gone up as well.

Around 14,000 U.S. soldiers are currently in Afghanistan.(ANI)
