Canada, China sign trade MoUs

Beijing [China], December 05 (ANI): Canada signed three trade agreements with China on Monday, as visiting Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang formalised the memorandum of understanding (MoU) at a ceremony here.

The two sides signed an action plan on energy cooperation and two MoUs in food sector, according to media reports.

The signing of agreements comes after the two sides, in September last year, when Li was on an official visit to Canada, decided to double their bilateral commerce by 2025.

Trudeau, who is on a five-day (December 3-7) visit to the Asian economic giant, is also scheduled to meet top government and business leaders of the country.

Canada's pivot to other economic powerhouses comes following tough trade negotiations with the United States, which is Ottawa's major commerce partner and under President Donald Trump's administration becoming protectionist.

This is Trudeau's second visit to China since he assumed office in 2015. (ANI)
