Australia says 'yes' to same-sex marriage

Melbourne [Australia], November 15 (ANI): A majority of Australia has said "yes" to legalising same-sex marriage after a two-month national postal survey.

As per the results released on Wednesday, 61 percent of the population voted in favour of the same-sex marriage, while 38 percent voted against, reported CNN.

More than 12.7 million people across the country, which makes the 79.5 percent of the total population, took part in the survey and the majority of people in every state and territory voted in favour of it.

The Australia's welcomed the news with teary eyes and great zeal. People gathered to hear the result in Melbourne, Australia were seen celebrating, singing and greeting each other after the announcement.

Meanwhile, Australia Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said that the response of the people have been overwhelming and added that same-sex marriage will be legalised before Christmas. (ANI)
