80 Afghan soldiers under siege in Northern Province

Kabul [Afghanistan], August 19 (ANI): At least 80 soldiers of Afghanistan National Army are under siege by insurgents since 20 days in Faryab province of Afghanistan, reports Tolo News.

Captain Farid, commander of Shaheen Military Corps in Faryab, said the soldiers' location is in Chinaee Camp in Ghormach district. Two of the soldiers were injured 10 days ago, but their injuries have not been treated well.

"Soldiers have not received ammunition so far and if they do not receive support, they will be arrested by the Taliban," he added.

However, Afghan National Army's media head Nusratullah Jamshidi has confirmed that the battalion had received air support.

He added that the Army's Commando Unit has been deployed to the area and that they will end the siege in the near future.

Taliban insurgents have taken over the center of Ghormach district.

Earlier, at least 12 civilians were reportedly killed in a rocket attack last week in Faryab province.

Officials had confirmed that children and women were among the victims, who were killed after a rocket hit a village in Dawolat Abad district. (ANI)
