WWC17: India need 229 to lift World Cup
Photo: Twitter New Delhi: Indian pacer Jhulan Goswami brought all her experience into action as she scalped 3 for 23 to help her side restrict England to 228/7 in the final of ICC Women’s World Cup at Lord’s on Sunday. Having won the toss, England openers gave a modest start to the hosts, stitching 47 runs for the first wicket. Lauren Winfield scored 24, while Tammy Beaumont added 23. But,it was  Natalie Sciver and vice-captain Sarah taylor, who stood in the middle to take England in a comfortable position. The duo added 83 runs for the fourth wicket. Wicket-keeper batswomen Taylor missed her half century by a whisker as she was caught behind on 45, while Sciver registered her ninth ODI fifty but was dismissed immediately after her classy half-ton. The day belonged to veteran Indian bowler Jhulan Goswami, who struck twice wickets in two deliveries and returned with 3 for 23 from 10 overs and destroyed a well settled partnership, handling major blow to England in the process. Spinner Poonam Yadav also had a fair share of success as she grabbed 2 wickets for 29, while Rajeshwari Gayakwad clinched one to register her name on the column. Mithali raj’s girls will have to chase down 229 runs to lift their first ever World Cup title.
