Wellington: The mother of Reeva Steenkamp, who was shot dead by Oscar Pistorius on Valentine's day last year, has said she does not want "revenge".

The athlete was awarded five years in jail for killing his model girlfriend after a seven-month trial.

According to Stuff.co.nz, June Steenkamp told British broadcaster ITV on Wednesday that she was "settled" with Pistorius's sentence for killing Reeva Steenkamp, even though it could mean he is out of prison and under house arrest after 10 months.

She said that the family did not want revenge, adding that they wanted a fair punishment under the circumstances on Pistorius' disabilities.

The distraught mother said that while the family may not feel that justice has been done, they had to accept what the judge decided.
