Rio Olympics (shooting): India's biggest medal hope Jitu Rai fails to reach final

Rio de Janeiro: India's best medal prospect Jitu Rai flattered to deceive and missed the qualification for the final round by two points in the men’s 50m pistol, and finished 12th in the Olympic shooting competition here on Wednesday. On a windy morning, Jitu shot a 554 at the end of his allotted shots. The top qualifying score was 567 and Zhiwei Wang of China, who qualified for the finals in 8th position, shot 556, two points more than Jitu. Jitu Rai had earlier made it to the finals of the men’s 10m air pistol event but could not get into medal contention. Prakash Nanjappa, the other Indian shooter in the fray, shot a 547 to finish 25th.
