Calcutta: As reported on November 1, Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be playing for Jharkhand in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Jharkhand are placed in Group B and will play their opening match against Jammu & Kashmir on December 10, in Bangalore.
According to well-placed sources, the Amitabh Choudhary-headed Jharkhand State Cricket Association had a word with Dhoni offering him the captaincy for the 50-over format tournament.
India's limited overs captain assured of his availability in the team, but has preferred to play as an ordinary player. Varun Aaron is set to lead the side.
Dhoni said he isn't very familiar with the current set of Jharkhand players and their strengths and so has no qualms about playing under Aaron. Dhoni's last appearance for Jharkhand, in any format (the T20), was in April 2007, soon after the disastrous World Cup.
Dhoni's retired from Test cricket, but the 34-year old still is India's ODI and T20I captain. He's the most successful across formats.
