Karachi: Pakistan’s Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq and senior batsman Younis Khan have expressed their unhappiness after being ignored by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) while announcing the names of the icon players for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Twenty20 tournament.

The PCB announced the names of the five icon players on Wednesday and the list didn’t include the names of Misbah and Younis. Instead, three foreign players have been named in the list. And, out of three foreigners, two players don’t even feature in their respective country’s national teams.

According to sources, Misbah and Younis are angry over not being given the captaincy of the PSL teams and they might stay away from the tournament.

The reason for not including the two in the icon players’ list is probably their age and the perception that they are not upto Twenty20 cricket standards where you need to be agile in the field and score rampantly with bat. But what surprised everyone was the exclusion of former T20 captain Mohammad Hafeez.

Five players who have been named in the icon players’ list are Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, Kevin Pietersen, Shane Watson and Chris Gayle.

The sources said Misbah and Younis have objected to giving priority to foreigners over local players.
