LIVE SCORE INDIA vs ENGLAND 4th Test Day 1: Ashwin's triple strike brings India back on track

LIVE SCORE | INDIA vs ENGLAND | 4th TEST | DAY 1

MUMBAI

FULL SCORECARD

Earlier in the day, the debutant Keaton Jennings scored a magnificent century. Now with Stokes and Buttler at crease and bowlers to follow, it would be interesting to see their tomorrow's tactics. Will Kohli opt to take the new ball early on and claim some quick wickets or will England launch a counter and run away with the game? So see you tomorrow at 0930 IST for all the action on Day 2. They were cruising through just when the man of the hour for India, Ravichandran Ashwin landed a double blow to England in the 71st over by sending both these set batsmen packing. He continued his heroics by taking the wicket of Bairstow and giving Stokes a nightmare of a time. However, Stokes survived and along with Buttler saw off the rest of the day. So after winning the first two sessions of the day comfortably, the hosts came back strongly and won the third session handsomely. The session started with England being 196 for 2 and ended on 288 for 5. The debutant Jennings and the all-rounder, Moeen Ali continued to play well with the latter completing his 9th test fifty. They went on to stitch up a 94-run partnership for the 3rd wicket. That's STUMPS, DAY 1!  England : 288/5. Jos Buttler 18 (37), Ben Stokes 25 (84) 89 Overs: England : 272/5. (AP Photo/Rafiq Maqbool) #WICKET: Ravichandran Ashwin to Jonny Bairstow, OUT! Softest of dismissals! Ashwin bowls it outside leg, Bairstow goes for his favorite sweep. He does not keep it down and hits it in the air towards backward square leg. Umesh Yadav gets under it and takes the catch. Ashwin takes off, he has four to his name and England are again playing with fire. Yes it is important to play positively and keep the scoreboard ticking but you do not need to hit the ball in the air to put pressure on the opposition. India won't mind this one bit, they will want to keep striking. Double blow from R. Ashwin! Tossed up beautifully outside off, drawing Jennings on the front foot. Jennings obliges and looks to defend it off the front foot but the turn on this ball takes the ball away from the batsman, catches the outside edge of his bat and goes towards deep gully. Pujara who was just placed over there takes a excellent low catch, diving forward. The debutant has to walk back but what an innings it has been from him. Take a bow, Jennings! #WICKET: Ravichandran Ashwin to Moeen Ali, OUT! In the air....taken! One shot too many for Moeen Ali! Tossed up on middle and leg, Ali once again goes for the sweep but ends up top edging the ball high in the air. Karun Nair places himself under the ball and completes the catch on the practice pitches in the square leg region on his knees though. What a way to get your maiden Test ton! Flatter on off, Jennings goes for the reverse sweep and connects well. He gets it down to the third man fence for a boundary. He shares a smile, hugs Moeen Ali and then raises his bat to acknowledge the applause. What a knock it has been from the southpaw. 53 overs: England 171/2. Keaton Jennings 92(174), Moeen Ali 11(43) 46 overs: England 160/2. Keaton Jennings 86(154), Moeen Ali 7(26) LIVE SCORE INDIA vs ENGLAND 4th Test Day 1: Ashwin's triple strike brings India back on track AP PHOTO #WICKET Ravichandran Ashwin to Joe Root, OUT! Easy as you like! Floated outside off, tempts Root into the drive. The ball gets the outside edge and flies to Virat Kohli who was going to his right but adjusts well to take it to his left. Sharp reflex catch and Ashwin is relieved. Replays show that the ball stuck between his wrists, lucky there, Kohli. Patel would be the most relieved man. A vital wicket for India and just at the right time as well. That was a poor shot from Root too. 37 overs: England 135/1. Keaton Jennings 68(128), Joe Root 20(34) Jennings had a few nervy moments before growing into confidence as the game went on. He registered his maiden Test fifty and is looking set for a big score here. England's intent has been to stay positive, hitting a lot of boundaries - they have already hit 13 and with Kohli predominantly not wanting to give the boundaries, this could set up a fascinating second session. Apart from Jadeja, no one looked in control for India and they will need a much better effort post lunch. Do join us in a while for it. Brilliant start for England! Everything has gone their way so far, the toss, the chances and the first session despite the wicket of Alastair Cook. The visitors began positively and kept the scoreboard ticking all the time. What should have been countered by some tight bowling by the hosts, was followed by some non-threatening bowling with a spread field. LUNCH LIVE SCORE INDIA vs ENGLAND 4th Test Day 1: Ashwin's triple strike brings India back on track AP PHOTO #WICKET Ravindra Jadeja to Alastair Cook, OUT! What have you done, Cook? Floated outside off, Cook wants to have a piece of him, he comes down the wicket to heave it over mid-wicket but the ball goes through him and the keeper, Patel has the easiest of the stumpings to complete. Replays actually suggest he had fumbled a touch since the ball bounced a bit more but he did well to finish the job. What a strike for India, they were right under the pump and Jadeja has given them a breakthrough in his very first over. England will have mixed feelings, they were hitting the gaps and putting pressure. Was there a need for such a shot just before lunch? Easier to say with hindsight though. India begin with BHUVNESHWAR KUMAR! Three slips in place for him along with a gully. Interestingly, a short leg has been placed first up for Bhuvi. Here we go... England have won the vital won a vital toss and elected to bat first in Mumbai. The visitors have been outplayed at Vishkhapatnam and Mohali  in the 2nd and 3rd Test match, Alastair Cook’s men  will have their work cut out to comeback in this series at the Wankhede stadium. The hosts have two changes in their side fit-again KL Rahul comes back to replace Injured Ajinkya Rahane while, Bhuvneshwar Kumar gets chances in the starting XI in place of Mohammed Shami. England also have two changes South African origin’s Keaton Jennings gets his first cap as he replaces another youngster Haseeb Hameed, who will miss the action with finger injury. Jake Ball has been called in to fill the void left by Stuart Board. India will enter the Wankhede stadium with an eye on series win but previous records at Wankhede gives some hope for the English side. This will be the First match at Wankhede stadium without a Mumbai-born player in the side and first match in 27 years at the Wankhede  which will not feature ‘Master Blaster’ Sachin Tendulkar. Hello everyone and welcome to the coverage of the fourth Test between India and England at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The hosts are sitting pretty with a 2-0 lead in the five-match Test series and will be looking to seal the series. The visitors will take inspiration from the fact that the last time they played in Mumbai, they put in one of England's best Test performances. Both teams have their injury woes and it will be interesting to see what combinations both teams go in with.
