Kumble turns 47, cricket fraternity tweets heartfelt bday wishes

New Delhi [India], Oct 17 (ANI): Former Indian skipper and head coach Anil Kumble turned 47 today and warm birthday wishes poured in from cricket fraternity.

Former and current cricketers took to Twitter to wish Kumble a very `Happy Birthday`.

Posting a collage of Kumble, legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar wished the former on his special occasion and said that he has been an inspiration for aspiring cricketers.

"Wish you a very happy birthday, Kumbels! You have been an inspiration for generations together and will continue to be one," Tendulkar wrote.

Meanwhile, former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag continued his typical witty way while wishing Kumble on his birthday.

Describing Kumble as India's greatest `Dhan`, Sehwag tweeted, "On Dhanteras, wishing one of India's greatest Dhan @anilkumble1074 bhai a very happy birthday.Jai jai Shiv Shambho,Happy Birthday Jumbo !"

"Very happy birthday @anilkumble1074! Wishing you a fantastic, most amazing and an incredible day. Lots of love and success to you!," Indian left-handed batsman Suresh Raina said.

Labelling Kumble as `one of India's greatest match winners`, former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman extended warm wishes to the former head coach and wished him a great year ahead.

Indian opener Rohit Sharma wrote, "Truly one of the legends of Indian cricket and played massive part in Indian cricket's success. Many happy returns @anilkumble1074."

Meanwhile, Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh said that Kumble is a very humble man and a perfect role model.

"A perfect role model, an inspiration to many and a very humble man. Happy birthday @anilkumble1074! God bless," Harbhajan wrote while wishing Kumble on his birthday.

Among the others who wished the former captain on his birthday were Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav, former cricketers Aakash Chopra and Mohammad Kaif.

Regarded as one of the best spinners India has ever produced, Kumble appeared in 132 Tests and 271 ODIs for India before bidding adieu to the game in 2008.

Kumble, who amassed a total of 619 Test wickets, also became only the second bowler in cricket to claim all ten wickets in an inning of a Test match. He achieved this feat against Pakistan in 1999 in New Delhi.

Earlier this year, Kumble stepped down from the position of head coach following ICC Champions Trophy in England, saying that skipper Virat Kohli had reservations about his work 'style' and his extension.

Kumble was appointed as coach in June 2016 for a one-year term by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) and was instantly successful. Under him, India won Test series against West Indies, New Zealand, England, Bangladesh and Australia.(ANI)
