Melbourne: Bromance seems to be blossoming in the ranks of the Big Bash League (BBL) team Melbourne Stars. The friendship of the Australian all-rounder James Faulkner and the discarded England batsman Kevin Pietersen, both of whom play for the Stars, is extending beyond the boundaries of the cricket field. And fans are amused.

Recently, the two were engaged in a friendly banter on Twitter after the Melbourne Stars loss against Adeliade Strikers in their first BBL match. And when the Stars lost their second match in a row against Sydney Thunders, the two star cricketers were again at it. In the fifth match of the BBL, the Stars lost conceded the match to the Thunder by just 1 run.

Stars, who are captained by David Hussey, won the toss and put the Thunder, led his brother Michael Hussey, into bat at the MCG. Thunder posted a good total of 178 in their 20 overs, thanks to a brilliant century by opener Usman Khawaja.

In reply, the Stars were struggling at 80/4 in 10.3 overs and victory seemed a distant thought. However, a brilliant 84-run partnership between Pietersen and Faulkner raised hopes. Pietersen hit a marvelous 76 off 42 balls before losing his wicket when the Stars needed 15 runs in just 10 balls.

Faulkner, famous for his prowess as a finisher, was expected to win the game easily for the Stars. But, the Thunder held on well and won the game by a solitary run.

As if they were missing each other’s company, the duo continued their match on Twitter. Here is the entire conversation….

Their banter was a treat the fans. That is how they reacted:
