New Delhi: It’s a history for Jammu & Kashmir. The boys from the valley stunned a star-studded Mumbai by four wickets to start their Ranji Trophy campaign on a high. At the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, the Parvez Rasool-led side held their nerves to outshine the hosts.

Chasing down 237, minnows Jammu & Kashmir romped home, riding on Shubham Khajuria’s gritty 78 and Hardeep Singh’s unbeaten 41. After restricting the Suryakumar Yadav-led side to 254, the young team from the valley ensured that there isn’t any slip-up.

Taking on Mumbai for the first time in the tournament, J&K had shown signs of resilience right from the beginning by not allowing the hosts to settle down. And, after creating history, they would be hoping to keep the momentum going.

Even at the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Jammu & Kashmir started their campaign on a high, defeating Delhi. But then, lost the plot mid-way.

This being the first match of the group, there’s certainly a lot to look forward to. But starting their campaign on a high, Rasool’s boys will be eager to maintain the winning run in the coming days too.

Most significantly, this victory comes at atime, when the J&K Cricket Association has found themselves in the rough waters, with allegations of fund misuse, surfacing. The team also suffered big blow months back, as their practice was hampered owing to the devastating flood in the valley.

But starting a tournament with a win is always special, and Rasool’s men would be hoping to keep the flag waving!

Brief scores: Mumbai 236 & 254. J&K 254 & 237-6 J&K won by 4 wickets.
