India likely to field Ashwin at the Gabba

New Delhi: After missing out on the first Test, Mahendra Singh Dhoni will lead India as they take on Australia in the second Test at the Gabba in Brisbane on Tuesday. But on the eve of the match, the India captain kept one guessing about the playing eleven.

In Adelaide, India had dropped off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin to make way for Karn Sharma. That, however, turned out to be a costly move for the visitors. And now, there are speculations that the team management is set to bring back Ashwin to strengthen the attack.

Refusing to confirm the development, Dhoni however, hinted that the offie is in their scheme of things. “Ashwin is someone who can bat lower down the order,” the India captain told reporters in the pre-match media conference. “I feel it is very important because at times we have lost our lower order very cheaply and the batsman at the other end hasn’t got support. It would be a great help to have someone like Ashwin at the other end because he not only spends time in the middle but also scores fluently,” the captain added.

Already trailing 0-1 in the series, it would be interesting to see what strategy the Indian team adopt to bounce back in the series.
