Hope to perform well in West Indies: Rishabh Pant on India call-up

New Delhi [India], June 15 (ANI): Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, who has been called up in the ODI as well as T20 squad for the upcoming West Indies tour, on Thursday revealed that he was not at all demoralised when he was put in standby for the ongoing Champions Trophy, rather he was quite confident of getting a chance to represent his country anytime soon.

Pant, along with Dinesh Karthik and Kuldeep Yadav, has been picked in the 15-man Indian squad for the five ODIs and a T20 international against West Indies, beginning June 23 at the Queen's Park Oval.

Pant and Yadav were already on the radar after being named among five players kept on standby for the 50-over marquee tournament.

Ecstatic to be named in the squad, Pant said that he is looking forward to learn from his seniors and perform to the best of his abilities.

"I am very happy that I am selected for West Indies tour. My target is to perform well nothing else . When I was in standby list for Champions Trophy I was not demoralised at all. Because I knew I will get a chance to play for India," the 19-year-old said in an exclusive conversation to ANI.

"I will learn from my seniors and will focus on my game. Right now I am practising hard and giving my hundred percent to my game. Hope I will perform well in the tour," added Pant, who has played just one T20 international for India.

Pant seemed to have been rewarded for his excellent showing on the domestic circuit, including impressive displays in the Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament.

The wicketkeeper-batsman amassed 366 runs at a strike-rate of 166, including half-centuries for Delhi Daredevils. He also notched up 326-ball 308 in the domestic Ranji Trophy last season. (ANI)
