Adelaide Test: Aussies extend lead despite second-innings wobble

Adelaide [Australia], Dec 4 (ANI): England's James Anderson and Chris Woakes bagged two wickets each to reduce Australia to 53-4 in their second innings at stumps on Day Three of the second Test of the five-match Ashes series here at the Adelaide Oval here on Monday.

After bowling out England for 227 in their second innings, Australia made a poor start to their innings, losing their top four batsmen-- Cameron Bancroft (4), David Warner (14), Usman Khawaja (20) and Steve Smith (6)-cheaply.

At the end of the day's play, Peter Handscomb (3) and Nathan Lyon (3) were batting at the crease and still leading England by 268 runs.

While Woakes finished the day with the figures of 2 for 13, Anderson grabbed the figures of 2 for 16.

Earlier, resuming at yesterday's score of 29-1, Australian bowlers produced a brilliant performance to bundle out England for 227 in reply to the Steve Smith's team mammoth total of 442-8 declared.

Nathan Lyon was the pick of the bowlers for his figures of 4 for 60 followed by Mitchell Starc's 3 for 49.

Pat Cummins took two wickets while Josh Hazlewood also chipped in with a wicket.

Australia are currently leading the Ashes series by 1-0 after clinching a huge 10-wicket win over England in the opening Test in Brisbane. (ANI)
