Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus, 'Bajirao Mastani' has accumulated much controversies before its release. The descendants of Peshwa Bajirao and Mastani have expressed their anger with the misrepresentation of historical characters.
The controversy began from the song 'Pinga' which according to the descendants have lot of objectionable material. Mohini Karkarey, descendant of Peshwa said that Kashibai, the role being played by Priyanka Chopra had arthritis, so how she could dance.
The letter to Bhansali also reads out that the costume which the two actresses wore in the song Pinga were not wore by royal ladies. Moreover, dancing was not a part of culture.
Priyanka and Deepika are portraying the role of Bajirao's two wives, Kashibai and Mastani respectively and have many scenes together. The descendants claim that Kashibai and Mastani met only once and that too formally.
Mastani'd descendants also raised objection against the dialogue shown in the trailer, ‘Bajirao ne Mastani se mohabbat ki hai, aiashi nahi’ . They termed it to be vulgar and shameful.
