New Delhi: A spot in the Champions Trophy hockey final eluded India as they lost 4-3 to Pakistan in a nail-biting semifinal match at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Saturday. While, Sardar Singh-led side failed to make it to the summit clash, Pakistan will now take on Germany in the final on Sunday.

Dishing out a nail-biting encounter, Pakistan rode on Qadir’s strike to snatch a victory from India. At a time when scores were levelled at 3-3, and India were looking to find the goalmouth, Qadir converted a penalty corner into a goal to put Imran Muhammad’s team into the final.

India played attacking hockey from the very beginning, and even took the early lead, riding on a Gurjinder strike. But Pakistan bounced back in style in the second half. Without allowing India to settle down, Waqas made it 2-1 for the visitors.

For those who thought the game was all over, it was Dharamvir who proved them wrong. Keeping his cool, he scored the equaliser keeping Indian hopes alive.

In an evenly poised encounter, Imran scored the third goal for Pakistan, only to be equalised by India’s Nikkin a few moments later.

But then, there are days when the favourites finish in the receiving end, and Saturday was one such. Just when fans were expecting India to make the historic final, Qadir dashed the Indian dreams, netting the winner.
