There was a big 'NO-NO' to make-up on the sets of Begum Jaan

NEW DELHI: Vidya Balan starrer 'Begum Jaan' seems to be one of the promising movies of the year as it is evident from its trailer. This is because of the amount of research done by its National award-winning director Srijit Mukherjee. 'Begum Jaan' is the Hindi adaptation of his Bengali movie 'Rajkahini' starring Rituparna Sengupta. During the shooting of the movie, the director advised the cast to have no-makeup look in order to appear convincing on screen. Even, the lead actress Vidya was not allowed to have threading or waxing. However, some actress would cheat and come up with make-up face but Srijit would notice it immediately. He used to check everyone's make-up before starting the shoot. I was like a school teacher who would check make-up and nails. I used to sit with wet tissues and wipe off all the extra make-up. Since the story is set in a different world, I didn't want them to have heavy make-up and manicured nails," Bombay Times quoted Srijit Mukherji as saying. The flick is slated to release on April 14.
