local court today directed the police here to register an FIR against
actress Genelia D'souza and five others of a real-estate firm, for
allegedly cheating a customer by "failing" to construct a duplex house at
Maheswaram mandal on the outskirts of the city.
In his complaint
before the First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court here, one
Ch Tirupathaiah, alleged that the five directors of a real-estate firm as
well as its brand ambassador- Genelia, of "failing" to construct a duplex
house, though, he had paid Rs 54 lakh towards booking the plot-cum-house
in their venture.
Tirupathaiah said, the firm's managing
director Sujith Reddy and other directors had promised to construct a
duplex house on the plot in 2008, which, according to him, has not been
done so far.
"Being the brand ambassador of the firm, Genelia
also made false promises through advertisements and brochures and
cooperated with other accused in cheating," the plot buyers Tirupathaiah's
counsel Balaji Vadera claimed.
Following the complaint, the
court directed Saifabad police to inquire into the matter and also to
register a case against Genelia and five others for offences of cheating
and under relevant sections of IPC.
The court has asked them to
submit a report by March 27, Tirupathaiah's counsel
