Yogi Adityanath's visit to Myanmar: UP CM pays homage at Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon

New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is in Myanmar these days. This is his first foreign tour after assuming office as CM of India's most populous state. Yogi Adityanath, who has an image as a Hindutva firebrand, assumed office on 26 March 2017. During his visit to Myanmar, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath went to the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon. In Myanmar, Adityanath will take part in a symposium on "World Peace and Environment", organised by the Vivekanand International Foundation. UP CM will be in Myanmar till August 7th. Interestingly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently described Myanmar as a "key pillar" of India's 'Act East' policy. PM expressed his firm commitment to strengthen the bilateral relationship in all areas. About Shwedagon Pagoda: The Shwedagon Pagoda is a gilded stupa located in Yangon, Myanmar. Measuring 99-metre-tall (325 ft), pagoda is situated on Singuttara Hill, to the west of Kandawgyi Lake and dominates the Yangon skyline. It is the most sacred Buddhist pagoda in Myanmar. It is believed to contain relics of the four previous Buddhas of the present kalpa. Reportedly, these relics include the staff of Kakusandha, the water filter of Koṇāgamana, a piece of the robe of Kassapa, and eight strands of hair from the head of Gautama.
