Woman, lover stripped and paraded naked in Rajasthan

New Delhi: This shocking incident is that of a woman and her lover who were stripped, paraded naked and then tied together for two days and a night by the residents of Kasotia village in the Udaipur district. The woman was allegedly living with her lover without seeking a community sanction. The mob led by the woman’s husband Bhanwarlal Meena went ahead to click pictures of the tribal duo and posted them on social media. The incident took place in broad daylight on June 20, only a few metres away from a government office and a school. Yet no one, including all eyewitnesses, school teachers and medical staff dared to report the matter to the authorities. While the man, Laluram, was released after his family paid Rs.80,000 to the villagers, the woman wasn’t rescued by the police until the matter came to light on Friday. A case has been registered against 30 people and 13 (including the woman’s husband) have been arrested so far. The village ‘patwari’ has been suspended by the district administration and an explanation has been sought from the school teachers and health workers who saw everything yet chose to remain quiet on the matter. This is not the first time that such an incident has happened in Udaipur. In September 2011 as well, the residents of Godli village near Udaipur had paraded a married woman and her lover naked in the village for an alleged illicit relation between the two.
