Wise on part of India, China to call back their armies: Alok Bansal

New Delhi [India], August 28 (ANI): After India and China agreed to end their over two-month-long stand-off in the Doklam Plateau, India Foundation Director Alok Bansal heaped praise on both the countries and believes that it is a wise decision, keeping in mind the BRICS summit next month.

"It is a praise-worthy step from both the countries. Neither of the two countries wanted any kind of a war. We have the BRICS summit coming up in China next month. I am glad that both the nations gave a good example of their diplomacy," Bansal said, while speaking to ANI.

Bansal stressed on the importance of the BRICS summit and reiterated that such an event can affect the relationship of the two countries.

He said, "At times, these situations escalate to another level and it is difficult to stop them. So, it was a wise decision from both the nations that they did not let this affect them. BRICS can help both the nations in more than economic ways."

He added that there are certain tensions which exist between the two nations at the moment and such steps can help quell the fire between the neighboring countries.

Earlier in the day, India and China agreed to end their over two-month-long stand-off in the Doklam Plateau by reaching an understanding not to let their long standing differences become disputes.

India -China standoff at Doklam, near the Sikkim-Tibet-Bhutan tri-junction had been going on for more than two months and the situation arose after China started constructing a road in the area. India objected to the road construction after the Chinese troops ignored Bhutanese protests, triggering a face-off on June 16. (ANI)
