Viral Sach: Did a 20-year- old girl marry a 75-year-old man at MP Govt’s mass wedding ceremony?

New Delhi: A picture has been making ripples on social media of an odd looking newly-wed couple. Now, question rises that what’s so odd about the couple? The most interesting thing about the viral social media picture is that the groom is almost the age of bride’s grandfather. Another very surprising fact about this wedding picture is the claims that the wedding took place under Madhya Pradesh Government’s surveillance, in a mass wedding ceremony as a part of ‘Prime Minister Kanyadaan Yojna’. As per a message which is being shared along with the picture, “In a mass wedding ceremony organised by MP government on May 22, 2400 couples got married”. To know the truth behind the picture, ABP News initiated a ‘Viral’ investigation, and reached Singrauli in Madhya Pradesh. After reaching Singrauli, ABP News accessed the photographs of the mass wedding organised by the MP government. But, the picture of the ‘uncommon’ couple could not be found. Post this, a second stage of investigation was initiated and ABP News reached the person who organises mass weddings, who said “this picture isn’t a part of mass wedding organised by MP government”. Considering that it was likely that the organiser’s denial came for he could be trying to save himself from the trouble, we next approached the ‘Maulvi’ who read oaths in the mass wedding. To our surprise, even the ‘Maulvi’ denied the charges of conducting such a wedding. After further investigation it was found that the picture was uploaded on a Bangladeshi website on March 19, 2016. Therfore, the claims made in the viral picture are false.
