Uproar in RS over renaming Mughalsarai to Deen Dayal Upadhyay railway station

Jan Sangh leader Deen Dayal Upadhyaya was found dead in mysterious circumstances near Mughalsarai station on February 11, 1968.

New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha witnessed uproar over the central government giving a green signal to the proposal of the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh to rename Mughalsarai railway station to Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (DDU) station. Mughal Sarai is one of the oldest and biggest railway junctions in India's Uttar Pradesh. CM Yogi had proposed in June that it should be renamed after Jan Sangh leader as Deen Dayal Upadhyaya. The central government has cleared and forwarded the proposal to the Railway Ministry. Opposing the renaming of the inconic station, Samajwadi Party MP Naresh Agarwal the House needs to thoroughly debate on it before a no objection certificate is issued. Born on September 25, 1916, Upadhyaya was found dead in mysterious circumstances near Mughalsarai station on February 11, 1968. Mughalsarai, one of the country's busiest stations and located along the Grand Trunk Road, was named so because Mughal caravans and traders from eastern India to Peshawar would stop at the point overnight before continuing their journey. Mughalsarai is only 16km from Varanasi. In April, the Adityanath government had proposed naming the Agra airport after Upadhyaya. All state libraries will be renamed after him.
