UP CM Yogi Adityanath inspects Gomti Riverfront, seeks account of every penny spent in Akhilesh's ambitious project

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath Yogi on Monday inspected Gomti Riverfront in Lucknow, which was one of the ambitious projects of Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party government that was made at a cost of Rs 1500 crore. The Chief Minister reached the riverfront at around 11 am along with several cabinet ministers. He had returned from his hometown Gorakhpur to the state capital. He was seen speaking to officials at the riverfront. Adityanath reportedly sought account of every penny spent in the project. He also asked why the water of Gomti is so polluted. He directed the officials concerned to ensure sewage water is not directly flowed into the Gomti River. GOMTI RIVERFRONT Under this project, a diaphragm wall has been made on both banks of the Gomti river to channel its waterflow. The land between the waterway and the embankment has been developed for public use, like tracks for cycling, jogging and walking, apart from play area for children. Public conveniences like toilets and potable water taps and parking spaces have been provided at every 500 metres. Commuting on the waterway will be through a water bus. A lake too has been developed along with installation of a musical fountain, an area reserved for doing yoga, a ground for weddings, and an amphitheatre with a seating capacity of 2,000. Under the project, the Hardinge Bridge, Gomti barrage and Lohia Bridge have been illuminated with RGB lights, besides coloured lights at the Gandhi Bridge. (With additional information from IANS)
