Twist in Lucknow passport case, Police may seize Tanvi Seth's passport; here's why

In what came as a twist in the controversy that was sparked when a Hindu-Muslim couple was allegedly harassed at Lucknow passport office, it was revealed in the investigation carried out by the Lucknow police that Tanvi had provided wrong information while filing documents for her passport.

New Delhi: In the latest development in the passport case of Anas Siddiqui and Tanvi Seth, the reports now suggest that Tanvi's passport is likely to be seized and a lawsuit is likely to be filed against her for giving false information to the passport office. In what came as a twist in the controversy that was sparked when a Hindu-Muslim couple was allegedly harassed at Lucknow passport office, it was revealed in the investigation carried out by the Lucknow police that Tanvi had provided wrong information while filing documents for her passport to the regional passport office. According to the police, the address provided by Tanvi was different from that the location was tracked by the mobile tower. Tanvi had earlier claimed that she lived in Lucknow, however, she told the passport office officials that she stayed and worked with her husband Anas in Noida. But the reports later suggested that she could also work from home. After the police launched the probe into the matter they got to know that Tanvi was living in Noida before June 14. Also, when the police called her over the phone, they could track her location between Noida and Delhi. This leaves the police with no option other than seizing the passport once the verification report is submitted. A case for giving false information can also be registered against Tanvi Seth. As per the norms, a person should apply for the passport with the address he/she is living at for past 6 months. However, only an army person, a person working in Central Police Force and students are exempted under the guidelines. Accordingly, Tanvi should have had applied in Ghaziabad post office and not Lucknow passport office. Watch- Meanwhile, Tanvi's name that she provided for the passport has also come under the scanner. Before getting married to Anas, Tanvi had changed her religion but claimed that she had never changed her name. However, according to report, the name that is mentioned on her Nikahnama is "Shadia Anas". The incident came to limelight when the inter-faith couple had alleged that they were harassed at passport office by the official named Vikas Mishra who allegedly asked the husband to change his religion and take 'pheras'. Later officials apologised and Tanvi was given the passport. However,  Mishra responded to the allegations and said what he did was as per the rules and regulations. He further said that he had asked Tanvi Seth to get the name "Shadia Anas" endorsed because it was mentioned on her Nikahnama.
