The Lucknow-Agra Expressway is closed for commuters on Tuesday from 10 AM till 2 PM as the Indian Air Force (IAF) plans are conducting a major touchdown exercise involving 20 planes, including the AN-32, Mirage 2000 and Sukhoi 30 MKI, on the highway.
This is for the "first time" that transport aircraft (AN-32) landed and then took off from this highway.
The aircraft touchdown exercise on the Agra Expressway took place near Bangarmau in Unnao district.
To ensure a smooth conduct of the touchdown by IAF aircraft, traffic restrictions is placed on the Agra- Lucknow Expressway for general public.
Landing of fighter aircraft on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway is an "important operational achievement", Vice Chief of Indian Air Force Air Marshal S.B. Deo said on Monday.
"I am very happy that the government has taken this very serious step, every new highway that has been made has provision, wherever straight leg permits, it will be made capable of handling fighter aircraft," he said.
