TMC MP sends defamation notice to Mukul Roy for levelling corruption allegations

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], November 13 (ANI): Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee on Monday sent a defamation notice to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mukul Roy for levelling corruption allegations against him.

The legal notice sent by Banerjee's advocate to Roy read as, "On 10 November, Roy in a public rally made certain defamatory, malicious, and false statements against Banerjee. Roy had deliberately levied various baseless allegations which were published, broadcast and circulated by various news organisations".

The alleged misleading and false statements were as;

- Banerjee financially benefits from the use of the Trinamool Congress logo. He is involved in corrupt practices and is illegally earning money through 'Biswa Bangla' and 'Jago Bangla' which is state owned.

- Banerjee has been misusing public funds and has been earning money through the Government of West Bengal. He also dubiously holds shares in various companies and is involved in large scale scams.

- Banerjee has somehow sponsored the Under 17 FIFA Football World Cup is laughable, false, misleading, and malicious.

Hitting back at Roy, the notice read as, "Roy has deliberately targeted All India Trinamool Youth Congress national president which are nothing more than an attempt to malign and tarnish his reputation. The notice further states that no such paper depicting Banerjee's ownership or association with either a company 'Biswa Bangla' and 'Jago Bangla' exist".

Banerjee's defamation notice comes days after Mukul Roy accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of indulging in 'minority politics' in the state.

"In West Bengal, Durga Puja and Laxmi Puja have stopped. Mamata Banerjee is indulging in minority politics," Roy had said earlier, while addressing a rally here.

He further said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would come into power in West Bengal in 2019. "A change will come. The BJP will come into power in Bengal in 2019," he said.

Explaining his reasons for leaving the TMC, Roy asserted that the promises made by the party were not fulfilled. "The TMC is no longer a party, but a limited company. So I could not stay longer in the party," said Mukul Roy.

Mukul Roy quit the TMC and joined the BJP on November 3. (ANI)
