The woman shouldn't have gone out so late in the night: Ramveer Bhatti, Haryana BJP

Haryana's Leader of Opposition and INLD leader Abhay Singh Chautala has demanded the resignation of Subhash Barala, after his son and an associate were arrested.

New Delhi: In what could be perceived as a shameful remark, vice president of Haryana BJP Ramveer Bhatti blamed the victim in the Chandigarh stalking case for driving "so late in the night". "The girl should not have gone out at 12 in the night. Why was she driving so late in the night? The atmosphere is not right. We need to take care of ourselves," Bhatti, told news channel CNN-News18. In a telephonic conversation with ABP News, Bhatti reiterated his lines by saying "parents should take care of their daughters. They should not be allowed to roam out of the house late in the night. They should come back home on time." Bhatti's comments come at a time when pressure is mounting on Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala's resignation as his son Vikas is involved in the stalking of 28-year-old woman Varnika Kundu. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday had said Subhash Barala had "nothing to do with the incident". Ruling out the resignation of Barala as the BJP state chief, Khattar said, "Barala has nothing to do with this incident. It is an individual incident. The accused will face action if found guilty."
