Take measures against terrorism: Cong on PM's Diwali celebration Gurez Valley

New Delhi [India], October 20 (ANI): The Congress on Friday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the Gurez Valley, asserting that instead of spending time with the soldiers, the latter should take measure to combat terrorism.

Speaking to ANI, Congress leader and former MP Jai Parkash Aggarwal said, "Spending time with the soldiers on Diwali, does not make him great or should feel proud of. When these soldiers are killed or martyred at the borders does he visit or meet their families or even does he take any initiative for the lost soldiers. This act of his is just a showoff game, which is seen by all and acknowledged".

Resonating similar views, another Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit stated that Prime Minister Modi should assure that killing of the soldiers to be stop.

"Just spending time with the soldiers is not everything; Prime Minister Modi should assure that killing of the soldiers should stop and their families to live in peace. When Army is recognized only for a special day then that is not accepted in the country. Prime Minister Modi should make measures to combat terrorism and save our soldiers who are the heartbeat to the country. ," he said.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Modi exchanged sweets and pleasantries with army soldiers and Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in the Gurez Valley of Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora District on the occasion of Diwali.

Prime Minister Modi, who spent nearly two hours with them, said he considered the soldiers as his 'family.'

Prime Minister Modi also assured that the Centre is committed to the welfare and betterment of the armed forces, in every way possible, and also mentioned the implementation of 'One Rank One Pension' scheme (OROP). (ANI)
