Shillong marks Air Force Day with Annual Air Festival

Shillong (Meghalaya) [India], October 6 (ANI): Meghalaya's capital Shillong celebrated the annual air festival on Thursday, as a part of the celebrations of 85th Air Force Day, which is on October 8.

Organised by the Eastern Air Command, the festival was a major delight for the visitors, who thronged the Advance Landing Ground to have the first hand experience of Sukhoi Aircraft, fighter planes and other equipments of the Indian Air Force.

Commandos of Indian Air Force displayed a scintillating performance of aerial maneuvering and perfect landing.

Performances by the Air Force Band and the Air Warrior Drill Team, followed by a fly-past of Mi- 17 helicopter and its smooth ground landing, left the spectators spellbound.

A visitor who came to witness the festival said, "It feels amazing to be here. We could witness the Sukhoi and have seen parachute landing. So many people has turned out here to enjoy, the atmosphere is really amazing here. All the air force civilians have gathered here to enjoy this auspicious day."

Organising such festival will go a long way in disseminating knowledge and will provide a better understanding of the contribution made by the Air Force personnel in protecting and safeguarding skies and also during disasters. (ANI)
