Shah accuses Opposition of hindering the passage of Backward Classes Bill

New Delhi: At the BJP parliamentary party meeting on Tuesday, BJP Chief Amit Shah vented his anger at the Congress Party for hindering the passage of the Backward Classes Bill in the Rajya Sabha. Amit Shah alleged that the Congress is deliberately trying to distort the one hundred twenty-third Constitution amendment bill. The reaction came a day after the Rajya Sabha sent back the bill with amendments. The constitution amendment bill on backward classes aims at granting a constitutional status to the National Commission for Backward Classes and provide it the authority to examine complaints and welfare measures regarding the classes which are socially and educationally backward. The ruling party appears irked after the bill was returned with opposition's amendments. According to Amit Shah, the bill should have been passed by Parliament in the budget session as it had been unanimously passed by the Lok Sabha. The Rajya Sabha however did not approve of it and sent the bill to a select committee. Even the parties in the select committee approved of the bill, but the opposition again conspired to stop it's smooth passage in the Rajya Sabha. As a matter of fact, the ruling party enjoys majority in the Lok Sabha, but not in the Rajya Sabha.
