Salaries of MPs to double, will get Rs 2.8 lakh

New Delhi: The central government is set to bring in a bill to increase the salary and perks of MPs of both the houses.

According to reports, MPs may soon get a composite salary along with allowances which would be roughly twice they are getting now.

After the bill is passed, MPs will start getting Rs 2.8 lakh per month.

The monthly salary of an MP will be increased from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh, constituency allowance from Rs 45,000 to Rs 90,000 and secretarial assistance plus office allowance from Rs 45,000 to Rs 90,000.

The salaries will see a yearly rise of Rs 2,000 for serving MPs. Earlier, the allowance was Rs 1,500.

Proposal is also to fix the salaries of MP at Rs 1,000 more than secretaries. Ministers will get a salary Rs 10000 more than the Cabinet secretary.
