Rupani says BJP won despite Congress polluting environment

Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], Dec 22 (ANI): Congress polluted Gujarat's environment in the name of cast and religion, which made the elections a huge task, said Vijay Rupani, moments after he was selected by BJP's top brass as the chief minister of Gujarat.

"The way BJP government worked for 22 years, it was a big task, especially with Congress's polluting the environment in the name of caste and religion," Vijay Rupani said in a press conference.

He added that people have voted for development and BJP would push this development wheel forward.

"I am thankful to those who gave me and Nitin the opportunity to show our worth. I promise the people of Gujarat that we will fulfill their dreams and aspirations in the coming five years. We will walk with PM Modi's 'Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas' agenda," Rupani added.

Nitin Patel, who would also continue as the deputy chief minister of the state, said, "I want to give assurance to Gujarat public that I and Vijay will continue to work for the people with the help of other party members just like our previous government."

To make the announcement, Union Minister Arun Jaitley reached here today.

Rupani and Patel have also been chosen as leader and deputy leader of the BJP legislature party in the state, respectively.

The BJP won the election for the 182-member Gujarat Assembly on Monday, claiming a clear majority of 99 seats.

Rupani secured a comfortable win from Rajkot West seat by 1,31,586 votes, which is the largest constituency in the Saurashtra region. (ANI)
